Lately, I've realized that a possible piece of the puzzle is my reading material. When I first started out eating less and exercising more, I couldn't get enough of fitness-themed sites, magazines, books, commercials, infomercials, Metro train ads ... you name it, I read it.

This was totally me too! Even the "metro" part. You must be from the DC area as well, because I think we're the only people in the US that don't call the the "subway".

I've found that weightloss blogs help me a lot. Maybe not in the advice area, because as you said, the good advice rarely changes--but just knowing other people are struggling through the same thing, and are trying to make the time and having those small successes keeps me going. :)

I have the same issue with my gym that you have and find myself avoiding it in the month of January. At our gym the chaos tapers off by late Feb early March. Just when it is getting nice enough to do stuff outside :)

i also bought 'you on a diet' but it hasn't arrived yet - am curious to see what all the hub-bub is about... i think WW works but would like to see what other tidbits of info i can learn, esp. about processed foods...

my cat, max, loves to climb ontop of the kitchen cabinets - he's 13 pounds and i have no idea how he does it but it started when he was a kitten... :o)

I just bought some Butterscotch pudding from Kroger last week. Maybe your store doesn't stock it? If I want to get Lemon flavor I have to go to Meijer. I haven't heard of the carmel flavor before.

If I didn't comment when you posted the photo, and I don't think I did, that Oz is one handsome meowser. I've never had an orange kitty before, but think they are so beautiful. They make me happy just to look at them.

I am so ready for the New Year's rush to be done. I don't go to a gym anymore, but my yoga classes have been super crowded, even at sort of off times. I'm all for people getting exercise and doing yoga, as long as they're not crowdin' me out while they're doing it. Things should be slowing down here soon, like after the President's Day holiday.

Upon your recommendation, I tried some of that pudding. And it is good! I was surprised at how good. Haven't seen any caramel ones at the store, though, but that sounds good, too, if it really is caramel and not butterscotch, because in my mind, those would taste very different.

I have loved the "Hello Kitty" bowling story and shared with my co-owner on AFG. Now I want one or something like it but I have to find a bowling partner. Maybe I'd like sports more if I could accessorize more and wear cute things (as opposed to a swimsuit).

Your Siouxsie t-shirt would make you popular here too.

Oz is such a sweetie; he looks like my old cat.

As for the gym,I read somewhere that March is a bad month b/c people realize that spring is coming and they have to take off their sweaters. I hope it gets better soon.

So along with tube tops and feathered hair, Siouxsie and the Banshees t-shirts are also acceptable bowling attire. Good to know!

Hehe, I love bowling and have had a problem finding a place to bowl that has the right mix of not too many kids but not too many people who look like they might "accidentally" mistake the bowling ball for a murder weapon. It's either too rough or too family friendly. I'm still searching though!

I adopted a stray like Oz, he is also fascinated with the refrigerator. Whenever I open it, he rushes over to LOOK. he can Look and Look and Look -- I am usually patient, and wait for him to moe away before I close the door. He wants to know about ...that bright room that he can't step into...

I find that the newbies vanish into thin air in mid-February, right after Valentine's Day.

When I'm lacking for reading material I go back to the women's board on T-Nation (it's called T-Vixen Sorority, but I strongly dislike that name) and read the articles linked from this post.

If you have the chance, post what you think of "You: On a Diet". I keep seeing that book, but I haven't bought it yet. I'd love to hear what you think of it.
