The Onion is the best! I just wanted to drop in and let you know that I have been following your blog for over a year. You are truly an inspiration. Keep up the good work!


My inexpert opinion is that carbs are not so much bad for you, as protein is good for you. It promotes muscle growth, which leads to fat burning. People who are restricting their caloric intake tend to lower their protein too much, simply because meat usually has more calories than vegetables, and we're looking for the most bang for the buck, so to speak. To which I respond: protein powder. And sorry about your hip, granny!


I hope your on the mend. I'm not going low carb, like atkins. My aunt did that and oh what a crabby auntie she became! What I've found is cutting out most starchy white stuff has helped me feel better over all. I got the tip from Oprah of all places. Basically I cut out the potatoes, white rice, sugar, and processed white flour. Take care, I enjoy reading your blog!


I did the South Beach Diet a few years ago when I outgrew my wardrobe; it worked for me. It stresses eating good carbs (whole grains) and cutting out bad carbs (the starchy white stuff mentioned in a previous comment), not cutting out all carbs. That whole wheat bagel is a great thing to have because your body has to work harder to process it (thus burning calories) than if you had a slice of toast made from white bread. So, enjoy your breakfast! (Oh, and for the record, I always thought you were pretty in high school!)
